Welcome Dr. E. Richard Steel, Pastor Emeritus (retired) and former Sr. Pastor of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, Baytown. He has served in the pastorate ministry for over 57 years. Dr. Steel graduated from East Texas Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received both his Master of Divinity and his Doctor of Ministry degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also attended the Spanish Language Institute and the International Interim Certification Training. Dr. Steel was elected to work with and support FBC over the next several months as we seek the Lord’s will for First Baptist Church. He is trained in the Intentional Interim Process endorsed by our Association/Convention and will share the pulpit with Dalton Currie to keep us informed on activities/progress. Oh, and by the way, fishing, both freshwater and saltwater, is his favorite pastime.

Associate Pastor Music/Administration

Paul Buchanan

Send Email

Paul Buchanan grew up in San Jacinto County, attended Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD, and is known to many in the community.  Paul and his wife Kristy have seven children.  They’ve returned to the area to raise their family and be a part of this community.

Paul received undergraduate and graduate degrees in music ministry at East Texas Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He has been licensed and ordained to the ministry.

Paul’s stated music ministry’s purpose is “to establish and develop a ministry program that accomplishes three goals: to enhance worship, musically prepare the congregation for worship, and bring the lost to a saving knowledge of the Lord.  We desire to work towards these goals so that the church is unified in our worship through music.  Each member of the church should both benefit from the music ministry in some way, and also be actively involved in the music ministry at some level.  There should be opportunities for the education of the true meaning of worshipping the Lord.  We are striving to bring a greater understanding of the role of music in the church while avoiding the dangers of using the service for entertainment or show. Worship should be presented to the Lord in a respectable way, offering all of our gifts to Him, our Creator.”

Psalm 33:3 – “Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.”

Sherry Toland

Send Email

Sherry Toland and her husband Jesse have made their home in this community for 29 years where they are still raising the last of their five children. During the last  several years she has continually poured into the lives of the youth from this community. Her faithful discipleship and motherly care for these students has produced a family that reaches far beyond her five children. Whether it’s just another football game or time for graduation, she is there to show love and support for her “kids.”  She hopes that all the students who visit the FBC Youth House will find a home away from home where they can eat pizza and laugh with friends, but most importantly hear the Word of God.

Pastor Emeritus

Dr. Don M. Shannon

I would like to extend an invitation to you and your family  to experience worship with us here at First Baptist Church in Coldspring, Texas.  The ministries of First Baptist Church are not limited to those of our own membership, but are extended to all.  If you, a loved one, or a friend has a need for prayer or assistance, please give our office a call.  You may have spiritual concerns, or you may be experiencing illness in your family, or you may be in sorrow with the passing of a loved one, or perhaps you just need someone who will talk less and listen more.  Whatever your need may be, our church is here to minister to you.            ...Dr. Don
